Rhizome.org posted an interview with Caroline Woolard of OurGoods.
OurGoods is a social networking site for creative goods and services; “a new model for valuing creative work”. The website matches users by their “haves” and “needs,” enabling a productive environment that is based on creative exchange instead of cash.
Being a recent art school graduate, I miss the abundance of resources and collaborative opportunity that a creative organization can foster. So naturally, I’m excited for the site and hopeful that it progress quickly. Once underway I’ll be offering up web experience for some CNC Milling. Awww yeah.

- Google and the politics of tabs, Govcom.org, Amsterdam, 2008
Google and the politics of tabs is the history of Google seen through its interface from 1998 until late 2007… It tells the story of the demise of the directory, and how the back-end algorithm has taken over the organization of Web information at the expense of the human editors and the librarians.
IBM shares its core principles in designing software. Although not directly written for graphic and industrial designers, it serves as a worthwhile checklist and reminder for those who create any type of experience or interaction.
Bring objects to life through good visual design.
The goal of visual design in the user interface is to surface to the user in a cohesive manner all aspects of the design principles. Visual design should support the user model and communicate the function of that model without ambiguities. Visual design should not be the “icing on the cake” but rather an integral part of the design process. The final result should be an intuitive and familiar representation that is second nature to users.
