Thermochromic Display

Thermochromic Display from che-wei wang on Vimeo.

A slow resolution display made out of standard lightbulbs and thermochromic paint.

This display lives at the intersection of digital control and analog output. A matrix of lightbulbs painted with thermochromic paint allows for an image to appear and dissipate analogously to the temperature of each bulb.

Connected

image

The visually spectacular Connected is a sci-fi short film set in an apocalyptic wasteland. Included in the film’s website is a section dedicated to the poster above, where the designers at Barq used the 70’s posters of Solaris, 2001: A Space Odyssey, and Silent Running for inspiration. I always enjoy seeing how a creative project comes together, and the Connected website contains a great overview. Connected was screened in September ‘09 in Copenhagen, Denmark, and I’ll be patiently awaiting its release in the United States.

Looking at The Secretary

Finding a simple management solution for creative portfolio websites is tough. Applications like WordPress and Drupal can be modified with third party plug-ins, but this process is often too complex and time intensive for non web folk. The ubiquitous indexhibit has been the go to content management system for portfolios; it’s simple to setup, easy to restyle, and has a large following amongst the creative types. Built from the ground up for portfolios, indexhibit dispenses with blog centric features, allowing a simpler back end to upload photos, create categories, and edit text and links. Although, after my experience playing with indexhibit for several weeks, I eventually abandoned the CMS finding it to be cumbersome and confusing.
